MAKEUP MOTIVATION

How do we find motivation to be creative? I know a lot of people reading this have at one point come to a creative block in makeup hair and SFX design, but what can you do to resolve this? Many people reading this are students at university so it can be tricky to find the time and motivation to complete practical looks, from balancing other modules maybe a job, and living independently. It can be really difficult and it just doesn’t feel like you have enough time in the day to complete everything.
We wanted to share with you our favourite top tips for sparking that creativity and driving you guys to success, no matter your goals or where you are in your education/ career.
Our first tip. What do you enjoy? Take a look at your Instagram, your LinkedIn, or even your website. What have you created and what did you love about it? Maybe you loved the colours or the fact you tried something new. Just note down what you really liked and enjoyed about the process. Once you have found out what you liked about all of your makeup looks, look for patterns maybe you love all your editorial looks, but absolutely hated working with the hair. Everyone will be different!
Once you have the general gist of what you like use your resources around you. You may have people in your course or industry that also like those things or have a look on Instagram or TikTok to see what other people are doing that like what you like.
Don’t just do things because you must do them, do things that you want to do. Finding inspiration is a great source of sparking creativity however, creativity can be crushed by pressure. Try and ease the pressure by creating a weekly timetable that you can stick to. I personally find it so rewarding looking back over the past week at my timetable and seeing that I’ve completed something because I scheduled to do it. Don’t forget to add breaks and lunch also set yourself a start and a finish time. I personally, will start my uni work at 10 am and make sure I’m finished at 5 pm but find something that works for you. I also refuse to do any uni work over the weekend as this is my time to work and meet up with friends.
Don’t forget to reward yourself for the small victory. Maybe you did something that you’ve been putting off for ages, but you worked hard on it. Reward yourself, maybe you love cooking or just fancy a takeaway, even a hot relaxing bath with candles. Whatever it is you deserve to feel good about it and celebrating the small wins in life can give you motivation to do it again and again. Working towards the small rewards can make you feel so much better trust me.
