NIP SLIP? HOW YOUR NIPPLES COULD CHANGE THE WORLD

Let’s talk about 2023 New York fashion week in February. Unique nipple covers and sheer materials were all the rave! Drawing attention to the female chest as a fashion piece and desexualising the nipple. It was a fashion power move that bought normality to the nipple being exposed. Some of the pieces included flowers, gems, fried eggs, peaches and letters as well as other abstract shapes. The media went crazy over the fashion show “Freeing the Nipple” with the theories of it becoming a trend; and the joy of women feeling comfortable in their bodies.

But why the nip slip? For decades the societal standard that women must cover up their nipples has flooded our brains. As long as the nipple is covered then it is fine? But how are female nipples any different to males? They may come in different shapes and sizes, but don’t men’s nipples too? There is a huge amount of sexualisation that surrounds the female nipples but men’s nipples are just seen as the norm. If a man was to take his top off there would be no issue but if it was a woman, the urge to look away or even stare would be more likely. Why does it have to be such a big deal? At the end of the day isn’t a nipple just a nipple.

It is time to ditch that bra and gain some confidence, in the summer heat they don’t need to be strapped away. We all have different shapes, sizes and little differences that make us unique so there should be nothing to be embarrassed about; difference is perfectly normal. If men can show them, why can’t we? Some of your fav celebrities have already started doing it. Bella Hadid has showed off her adorned nipples to the world and Naomi Campbell has embraced the sheer and diched the fear. Don’t let them be the only ones jumping on this fashion trend this summer. Spice up your summer outfits with the latest fashion accessory... NIPPLES! Don’t sexualise, just accessorise.

Side note: If you do notice any lumps, rashes, discolouration, or anything that is not normal for you please contact your GP. #breastcancerawarness
