BBC NEWS

Five days ago, BBC News released information that 2,000-year-old products were discovered by archaeologists! Isn’t that incredible? One of the items uncovered is a pink pigment. It is a vibrant hot pink these people had style. It is crazy from looking at the photos on the BBC website how intact some of the stuff is.

On the BBC Instagram, they wrote, ‘An ancient cosmetics and jewellery shop Dating back thousands of years has been uncovered in the ancient city of Aizonoi – located in modern-day Turkey. Archaeologists found perfume bottles and remains of makeup including eye shadows and blush. It’s thought the makeup was used by Romans more than 2,000 years ago.’

In the comments, lots of viewers said it looked like a Lush bath bomb and even questioned what it could possibly be made from. The health and safety guidelines we now have, for what can be used in a product, are much stricter which even makes me question what did they use? Could the formula be filled with that many bad chemicals, causing it to not break down over this long period of time? I know that Lead was once quite a popular substance used in makeup until they found out it caused Lead poisoning. I bet it is probably being tested in a lab right now to discover what it is made of.

Doesn’t it make you wonder what will be left of our generation for ones to find in the future? Maybe they will question us too. I certainly wouldn’t want to put that pigment anywhere near my face, would you?

I wonder what the future generations will find of our makeup products after we have gone. I mean sure they will have access to technology to hopefully try and find the answers but the makeup products that have been created over the years have been so strange. I mean look at all the different ways that have been created to apply foundation over the years from makeup sponges, to silicone blenders to makeup brushes that look like bristles on the back of a spoon. I wonder what a future civilisation will think of these ancient relics of ours. Would our makeup products even survive? Or has the mass production of makeup led the quality to diminish and degrade in the ground with our generation.

It’s all an interesting idea and a question we will never truly be able to answer. I mean I’m sure historians have made some educated guesses towards what some of these products would have been however how would one truly know if they weren’t there in the past watching and recording. We would honestly love to hear what you think future historians would think some of our makeup products would be and how absolutely absurd some of there guesses would end up being.
