Makeup filters, AI enhancements and digital makeup are becoming more and more trendy. Subtle fake freckles, full on 3D eyeliner to completely digital makeup looks. You can pick and choose a look with minimal effort. Clever or cheeky?
These new editing techniques can totally change the vibes of your photo, adding some 3D graphics to your face or altering your skin to look like a porcelain doll can enhance your photos in a way that makeup can’t. Talented artists can even create a completely generated makeup looks on a person that even doesn’t exist. But how does this change our industry?
Artists such as Ines Alpha are showing their 3D makeup designs over on Instagram and they are completely show stopping. No need to go to the cinema for this 3D show, Ines’ designs are displayed all over their Instagram as well as in virtual worlds they created to display their CGI designs. Their work has been seen in museums in Paris and on the cover of Rolling Stones magazine, it looks like there is no slowing down for Ines
With this new world of digital makeup, it feels like there is a futuristic push in the industry driven by younger artists. But this shift in technology does have its setbacks. The problem comes when this trend falls in the hands of unmotivated artists. Why polish a makeup look when you can just use a filter. It’s simple, quick and easy. The range out there is incredible now. It’s convenient and clever. The technology is becoming so advanced that it can line up perfectly on anyone’s face shapes and features. It’s misleading and with a click of a button you can hide any natural skin texture and imperfections. This begs the question, do we need to disclose when filters, editing or CGI has been used in media? I mean with the 2022 proposal bill where influences will have to disclose if the photos are edited, would it be such a shock that this will eventually happen to digital make up too.
Would you try out digital makeup or are you sticking to the makeup bag? I am personally sticking to my makeup bag I’m not ready for the AI takeover just yet.
